“A player must rest properly for the injury to heal” says Dr. Greg Rose
Dr. Greg Rose is a very high profile doctor. Some of the world’s top most athletes consult him regarding their injuries.
Golfers especially consult him regarding their injuries. Recently, Dr. Greg was addressing a gathering of the more than 650 people at the annual World Golf Fitness Summit.
He said that he perfectly understands the will of players to go out and perform to the best of their levels but what they do not understand is that they need a certain amount of rest before they can deliver to the best of their capacities.
In fact, Dr. Rose was quoting an example of one his clients Ben Crane. Ben sustained a lower back injury at the WGC Invitational. Crane has been a remarkable success story when it comes to injuries.
Since early August, Crane was out of the golf course due to an injury. However, he returned for the FedEx Cup Playoffs but according to the doctor, it was too early for him to return to the golf course.
Ben Crane rang up Dr. Greg Rose and told him that after a few practise round at the Frys.com Open, he felt some stiffness in the back.
The doctor has advised him not to play at CordeValle because he is not hundred percent fit as yet.
“He played in a pro-am (in Texas) on Monday and played great but told me he was a little sore the next day,” said Rose, a co-founder of the Titleist Performance Institute and Fitness Summit, now in its seventh year. “You just can’t take a competitive player
and sit them on the sideline”.
Following his doctors advice, he skipped theFrys.com Open but he will be playing in the McGladrey Classic next week. Crane is the defending champion and he is eager to defend his title.
Rose’s main emphasis during the whole lecture was that the key to fitness is rest. Human bodies are not machines, they need a ample amount of rest for them to recover properly.
“Once they get injured the first thing they do is want to go back to work,” Dr. Rose said. “I tell my players that when you feel like you’re healed, give me another two or three weeks”.
