Girls in white dresses would dance through the fields

picking armfuls of daisies, a portrait of youth.

Soldiers in uniform now march through the fields

blood staining the little white flowers in bloom.

Girls in black dresses ____ through the fields

I can't think of a graceful way to word the girls being part of the funerals for the soldiers, following the caskets or something. Can someone help me out?
