A poem: What do you argue about?

Healthy marriage

We recently learned,

my husband and I

that arguing's healthy

and keeps marriages strong

so we tried to come up

with something worthwhile

to argue on and on about.

After agreeing upon

every subject discussed

we decided to argue

about his coffee cup.

Who should wash it,

You or I?

You should,

No, you should

and so it goes on...

Every day he comes home from work,

unpacks his lunch, washes his dishes,

all except for the coffee cup,

which sits on the side board, dirty, untouched.

Supper's done, dishes I've washed,

every one but that blasted cup!

Bed time comes, "Sweet dreams, Hon,"

"Love you dear, good night..."

Morning comes, early we rise,

I pack his lunch with love,

which, by the way, I also prepared,

with love the night before,

then stick out my tongue

at that coffee cup.

Pour my coffee and sit at the table

with my Soduko book...

Hubby comes in and shoots me a look

of sheer and utter annoyance

continued...

  1. It was fun to read it again. Would you mind e-mailing me the name of your "friend," if you know him, so that we can all be on the look-out. I'm sorry you have this current trial to bear, on top of other things.

  2. I like this poem and liked it before. Throw out that old coffee mug--no, keep it. Married life is no fun without an argument to make up after work.

  3. I like this poem for all its quirkyness.  Some of the lines are a little awkward, but it fits within the voice and context of the poem, so they work just fine.  Could it be shorter?  probably, but there's nothing wrong with the way it is right now.

    ...keep writing

  4. I like it.

  5. This paints a happy picture for me, sunshine and care, love and breezes. Thank you.
