A popular dance from the year 1971?

I'm doing a skool prject and need a popular dance to teach from the year 1971. Any suggestions..... Thanks!

O.K.  This was my second year in college and we had all sent home because of riots, the year before. I went to Ohio University where I majored in dance.  After the tragedy at Kent State where students who were demonstrating against the Viet Nam were killed by Ohio National Guardsman, we all quit dancing for awhile.  There was mostly hippy free style dance going on.  This demanded no athletic ability or sense of where your body was in space.  It was creative sustained movement.  Other groups of people who were not hippies did soul train line dancing.  Some learned the hustle.  Some of my friends parents took square dancing lessons and dressed in square dance costumes for the dances.

For some reason Yahoo won't let me send links.  Type "santa Cruz hippie dance youtube"  into your search engine and there are videos of the dance style I remeber, although the dance is more energetic and percussive in the videos than I remember.  I remember sustained movements with leaps that had no technique.
