Question:

A possible way to decide drawn games?

I would not be suprised one bit if this has been taken into consideration by the AFL before but what if that in drawn games, there was like a penalty shoot out style way to decide the game?

So from like, 25m directly in front of goal, the player would take their kick and with the goal umpire in position, who ever had the most points after 5 kicks would win....

I wouldnt mind the AFL having games decided if they are drawn but what do you think is the best way to resolve drawn games??

i think my idea could be good in say the NAB cup but if you could decide the format to end drawn games, how would you do it?

  1. Got to disagree with you there mate, I prefer the extra time rule. Don't get me wrong aflumpire, your idea is good, but each to their own I guess.

  2. Take off all but 6 players on each side and give them 10 extra minutes, 5 minutes to kick to either end, leading side in 10 minutes wins.

Give the stars the chance to earn their big bickies and not lean on their shovels!

  3. Are you on the same drugs as Cousins?

The draw in a game does not happen that often, the Americans can't handle drawn games they must have a winner, their society is based on this fact, we on the other hand can deal with it, if in the allocated time two teams remain deadlocked then give them the 2 points, let's not go down the path of extra time and penalty shoot outs in home and away games for finals sure as no one wants to comeback the next week, leave it all as is.

  4. Extra time is just fine, no shootouts. That is silly from soccer, especially when it was done in a world cup final.

  5. Sorry, I have to agree with almost everbody else on here.

A perfect example is in English Football where a game is decided on a kick at the end. Such a crappy way to lose a game.

Stick with the extra time rule, works ok I think :))

Arsenal .... I don't think there is anything wrong with deciding a winner on the day, you use Americans as an example and say they can't handle a draw. I don't think that is fair, I know I would much rather go home losing than the frustration of a draw. All Americans aren't the same.

  6. Have to disagree with you there.

Its not soccer, its AFL and drawn games should be decided in time on.

Why cant we just keep things to how they are?

  7. the AFL have already changed so much of the game that i really do not want to see it changed anymore.

the extra time rule that they use in finals is the best i reckon.

although i think that they should use it all year round.

    catch yaa

    x

  8. Maybe we could have a shootout say from 60 m out the best of 2 kicks  wins and if that's 2 easy make it 65 m 70  and so on it would be a buzz to see that i think the crowd would get involved a lot  it would be great .

  9. Extra time for all games

    EXCEPT the Grandfinal

The GF should have a replay in case of a draw

2 grannies are better than 1

  10. I'd say do rock paper scissors

  11. Usually you come up with pretty good stuff ump but this is a shite idea.  You been on the turps tonight?  My god man, you'll turn it into soccer!  Like the AFL are trying their hardest now to make some fairy game that appeals to the teenyboppers and soft touches.

I reckon stand the four rucks in the centre circle and do a sumo contest!  Last one standing in the ring wins the game!  (Like if that's too fairy you could provide weapons of some sort)  Much better idea .... or

... we could just go with drawn games

  12. nah i think its fine how it is, keep the draws

  13. Nice idea and I see where you are getting at, BUT...PLEASE NO MORE CHANGES!!!!!

  14. Nah, can't see it ....... maybe as a laugh in NAB Cup but even then can't see it happening. I agree with what a lot of others have already said here ............ drawn games should be decided in time on. Not shootouts like soccer, and not first team to score wins like NFL. time on and if there's no winner after time on call it a draw.

    - Go Hawks

  15. It would be a good idea for the nab cup just to see how it goes but not for the real season I like the idea of draws except in the finals.

Imagine though if Matty Lloyd got the ball we would be there all night.

  16. SORRY mate i but id prefer the extra time rule,or just stick with the draw 2 points each ,it adds to the result at the end of the season of who makes the 8.

  17. They average 1 draw a year so why bother.

  18. You ever see that stupid bowl off in 20/20 cricket to sort out tied matches

    A kick off sorry mate

Like when we were kids and mum calls us in for dinner

    Next goal wins

  19. For the pre season, maybe. It would be quite ummm whats the word....suspensful?? iuno

For games I dont really like it cos it leaves it down to one [player and just erases the whole team aspect. Also it would be a LOT of presure on the player kicking and if they get it everyone will say that they are the champ or saviour or whatever and if he misses th loss will be his fault. Extra time is more exciting cs its fast and intense.

Only kick offs in the preseason comp
