A potato a day for baby?

I'm very newbie in cooking, so my friends and family taught me how to cook for my baby. Actually most of chinese cook broth for their baby and it's an easy way of cooking.

I usually mix a potato and half a carrot into the broth, which either fish meat broth or pork meat broth into the slow cooker. That's for 1 meal. I didn't put in anchovy like they did because i read a lot in internet that anchovy is not very good for baby.

If i make two meal, i will make the same broth. Sometimes i feed him cereal "brown rice with yogurt and raspberry or brown rice with milk" he loves that. I tried "oat with prune" but he didn't want to eat at all though he loves prune juice.

Is it alright for baby to take in that much potatoes? Oh, i did try put in spinach and broccoli but my baby didn't want to eat it. Any suggestion of easy recipe yet nutritious? I feel kinda bad for feeding him the same old thing everyday. He always demand for the food I'm eating, sometime I gave him a spoonful of rice just white rice with a bit of soup and he loves it. Now he's demanding more on the food that's I'm eating. He'll go mummm mummm mummm even he just finish his meal or milk.

Oh sometimes i make mashed potatoes for him. Again potatoes. Oh one more thing, I tried before sweet potatoes and he didn't like it.

When he didn't like it he'll taste 1 spoon then didn't want to open his mouth for the next. He's 11mths old by the way.

Thanks.

  1. do feed him watever you are eating, i think he is old enough for it..he sounds so cute :)

  2. It sounds like you're doing a good job.  What you're giving him is much better than baby food in the jar.  If you ever make meat loaf, mix the spinach and broccoli or any other vegetable in with the meat before you bake it, he will get the nutrition and never know it's in there.  Give him the skins with the potatoes, the skins have a lot of the vitamins.  There's nothing wrong with giving him potatoes, if they are real ones and not the flakes in the box, they are good for him.  Keep trying new things and he won't be a picky eater.

  3. As long as your baby doesn't get constipation! Too much potato makes her stomach hard and he me get stomachache.

  4. Variety is the spice of life. That's what they say but if your baby likes it then give it to him. Especially if he is thriving on it. You could also make similar meals with chicken and other veg. Spinach and broccoli are quite strong tastes for your baby so why not try something milder. How about cauliflower? You could make a cauliflower cheese. Or try boiling some pasta and adding a tomato based sauce. If you want instructions on how to make it send me an e-mail, i'd be happy to hep.
