  1. Roy Jones whitewashed the primed B-Hop, and did it with a fractured wrist.

    Robinson wins every round.

  2. Look at what Taylor did to him. I have no doubt Hopkins would make it the distance but he would drop a lopsided decision. Look what Roy Jones Jr did to him with a broken hand. Looks what the limited Taylor did to him.

Sugar Ray would bust him up, unlike Jones Robinson would not be scared to exchange giving him the opportunity to knock him out, an opportunity Jones was not willing to risk.

But Jones and Taylor are perfect examples of the guys that give Hopkins trouble. Fast, slick, fleet footed boxers who unleash and are gone before the counter.

Robinson would be all over Hopkins and I could see Robinson stopping Hopkins late. But most likely Hopkins would survive and drop a unanimous decision.

Moglieboy : Obviously you are just looking at his record and not the man himself, the comment about Turpin beating him? Yes he was only 30 or so years old but he had already been in 120 some fights with his only loss to LaMotta which he avenged 5 times including his most dominant performance over LaMotta in the fight that became to be known as the St. Valentine's Day Massacre Robinson seemed much more comfortable at middleweight.  He also came back to dominate Turpin in the rematch, Robinson did not look like Robinson in the first fight he looked sluggish, but after 100 some fights your body has its good nights and bad. A prime Robinson dominates Hopkins with his lighting jabs and surprisingly strong uppercuts.

I do agree with you on the fact that allot of time people think of fantasy over reality. As with people who believe 5'10 188lbs Rock Marciano would beat Lennox Lewis or Mike Tyson, its just not realistic on that area I agree with you, but Robinson is different he was about 40 years ahead of his competition and was 5'10 and could carry 160 fairly easy and comfortably and would be to fact and to slick for the counter punching Hopkins.

If Robinson fought Hopkins it would be a wide decision blow out, Hopkins would be flustered and would have no answer for the jab and speed of Robinson. I have no doubt that Hopkins would make it the distance, he is crafty and has a good chin but It would be obvious who the winner was in the end.

  3. Man, that would be something. But I'd have to give it to Robinson. Hopkins has great ability, but sometimes he clowns. Sugar Ray was all business.

  4. There is no question that Sugar Ray Robinson would destroy Hopkins the only question is if Hopkins would finish the fight standing or flat on his face.

  5. Robinson was the smaller fighter and the natural Welterweight facing a fighter who was more natural at LHW than MW. Not to mention Hopkins had a great chin, excellent defense, and was an overall highly skilled, crafty boxer.

More often than not Robinson struggled with lesser talented, but equally big, strong, and tough MW's than Hopkins. He lost to quite a few of them as well, and was troubled badly by the cute, crafty style of Turpin when he hadn't really even passed his prime yet.

The people giving Hopkins no chance are the ones who more than likely just like to romanticize the old-timers while throwing all logic out the window. They'd probably favor Robinson over Tyson as well.

As it is, I'd say the fight is about 50/50 with both at their very best, maybe even a slight edge to Hopkins.

edit: LOL at Elmer Fool. Roy Jones won about 9 rounds on a young B -Hop, not a primes version. Jones was closer to prime in reality at that stage than was Hopkins. Jones was also bigger and faster than Robinson at MW, and stylistically fights nothing at all like Robinson. All your post shows is your lack of any analytical knowledge, just like the rest of the retards on this site.

  6. Sugar Ray Robinson was the greatest fighter of all time, he would have simply koed Hopkins, Ray was all business in the ring, a great figher
