A problem has been detected and windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer?

On Sunday, I was on my Dell computer and nothing was loading... I was trying to get onto the Internet and it just wouldn't load. And then it decided to freeze up. So I shut the computer down by holding the button down and then restarted it. But when I restarted it a screen came up that said: Windows did not start successfully. A recent hardware or software change might have caused this.

And then it tells me I can start up in safe mode, safe mode with networking, safe mode with command prompt, last known good configuration, or start windows normally.

I have tried ever single one of those and each and every one of them leads to that dreaded blue screen that says: A problem has been detected and windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer. If this is the first time you’ve seen this stop error screen, restart your computer. If this screen appears again follow these steps: Disable or uninstall any anti-virus, disk defragmentation or backup utilities. Check your hard drive configuration, and check for any updated drivers. Run CHKDSK /F to check for hard drive corruption, and then restart your computer.

Technical information:

*** STOP: 0X00000024 and a bunch of other numbers and letters...

And there's no way for me to get past this screen...

So what am I supposed to do? Can my computer and all my stuff on it still be saved? I would greatly appreciate your help!

  1. Could be a problem with device drivers, hardware or software. This  problem can be solved by uninstalling new softwares, updating device drivers and making minor configuration changes . From http://fixit.in/bluescreenofdeath.html . You can also run a free registry scan using utilities from http://re7.info

  2. Hello

0x00000024 NTFS.sys document is due to an error (this is the role of paper-driven system to allow the use of reading and writing

NTFS file system disk), which the two blue screen error is most likely physical damage to the disk itself, or interrupt request packet (IRP) damage caused. Other reasons include: too much debris disk drives; document Reading Write too frequently, and data is up to or because of some disk mirroring software or antivirus software caused.

    ◇ solutions:

The first step: First, open a command line prompt, run "Chkdsk / r" (note: not CHKDISK, feeling like this, but……) order inspection and repair the drive's error, if the existence of the report with Road (Bad Track), please use the hard drive The inspection tool manufacturers to provide inspection and repair.

Step 2: Even then disable all the software scanned documents, such as: antivirus software, firewalls or backup tool.

Step 3: Right-click the C: \ winnt \ system32 \ drivers \ fastfat.sys file and choose "Properties" to see whether their version of the current system used by the version of Windows in line. (Note: If it is XP, should be C: \ windows \ system32

    \ drivers \ fastfat.sys)

  3. Definition: STOP 0x00000024, 0X0000024, 0X24 or NTFS_FILE_SYSTEM

Run Chkdsk /f /r to detect and resolve any file system structural corruption. You must restart the system before the disk scan begins on a system partition. If you cannot start the system due to the error, use the Recovery Console and run Chkdsk /r .

  4. If I remember correctly, that STOP error message is a NTFS.sys error. The file system is messed up. I used a Knoppix DVD to fix it. You could also likely fix it with you Windows install disk. Let me know if the first answer doesn't fix it for you and I'll send you the links to fix it with Knoppix.

  5. Finally a great question with all the details.. GREAT JOB!  Get your Dell disc/Windows XP disc and put it in the computer. Press the space bar to boot from the cd. When the XP cd asks to if you'd like to repair your installation of windows do the yes option don't confuse this with the automatic system recovery or ASR let that message go on by... now you will see a black screen with a (c:\). Type chkdsk /f. And do the yes,yes.. This hopefully will fix your windows issue. The next best thing I could suggest is google-ing WinPE/BartPE. and build this boot cd it will tell you about. If you need help in setting up the WinPE/BartPE Disc you can send me a message. This software will allow you to access your files if the drive is still readable and copy them to something like a USB device or drive.
