A problem with relationship link on Family Tree Maker 2005?

I seem to have a problem with FTM 2005, which i cannot understand. When i use the Relationship calculator, it seems to find no relationship with my and my paternal male ancestors, giving a result of "no relationship". However, i cannot understand why. It works with the relationship between me and my dad, and me and my paternal grandfather, but any higher than this, and it finds no relationship, despite all data appearing to be correct, all marriages correct, etc. Can anyone explain why?

  1. I don't use FTM, but I'll take a stab. The problem is either in the calculator itself or in your data.

Try someone who isn't in your line - your wife's brother, for instance, or someone who died in 1805. If it will recognize his  great grandfather, the problem is in the data. If not, it is in the relationship calculator.

Try your paternal grandfather. If it will recognize his grandfather but no further, your RC has a problem in paternal relationships of more than 3 generations. If it doesn't recognize that your grandfather is the son of your great grandfather, something is wrong with the way you entered your grandfather or your great grandfather.
