A question about 98.7 Detroit?

Does anyone know what the target audience of V98.7 is? (age, gender, cultural background, education level, interest areas..?)

All Smooth Jazz stations (including V-98 for which our company has done some work) target adults 25-54. In actuality they get 35+ (with an unwanted emphasis on 55+), but the agencies that buy advertising don't want to hear that. The target is generally of higher-income, better educated, black and white with a slight lean towards women. But the older the audience, the stronger the numbers are in men.

As a note of interest, many Smooth Jazz stations have been ditched within the last few months, including those in what were previously viewed as stable markets for the format: NY, Dallas and Washington (several because of the Citadel takeover of ABC).

Most of this is due to the actual demographics of these stations (see above) and the reality that people over 35 DO spend money. Unfortunately many buyers at ad agencies are just not ready to admit that to their clients because they've fought the 25-54 battle for so long - but that's another story for another question.
