A question about AARP?

My husband and I are trying to figure out what the abreviation stands for. Can anyone tell us what AARP stands for??

American Association of Retired Persons.  

It's a club.

Also it is an association, not an insurance company. They reinsure you out to a insurance company. Presently they use United Healthcare to do this. You must be age 50 and pay an annual membership fee to join AARP and get their magazine and discounts, etc. You do not have to be a member and pay annual dues to purchase a policy from United Healthcare with the AARP brand logo.
