A question about Ambassadors, and their spouses and children?

When Ambassadors are overseas, you know, doing their ambassador stuff, do they take their spouses with them? And their children?

If they do take their children with them, what if:

The child was below school age when it went overseas, but got to school age when it was in this foreign country? Would it start school in that country?

Thank you very much!

  1. There are US ambassadors and consul generals at US foreign missions around the world, from the most beautiful, peaceful countries, to the most unpleasant, dangerous places imaginable.

When allowed, families are most welcome to accompany the representatives.  Children may attend local schools, or may be sent to boarding schools elsewhere in the world, at the parents' option.

  2. In most circumstances families can go with an ambassador but most are old enough that their children are in college or older. Spouses most generally do accompany them though.  As for school I would say that most would attend a local private school unless they are stationed in a  locale that has US schools such as DOD.

  3. They can but would you take your spouse with you if you were in Iraq or even israel or anywhere in the mideast? I'm pretty sure the kids would go be home schooled but i'm not too sure
