My boyfriend just got arrested tonight for driving while under the influence of marijuana. His bail is set for $750. I do not have the money and I cannot find a friend to help. Is there anything I can do to get him out of jail asap? Please help.

  1. A bail is set by either state statutes or by a judge after a court hearing.

A bail must be paid in cash (no checks, credit, or debit).  Bails are returned to the inmate after they return to court minus court costs and fines.

A bond may also be accepted.  It is up to you to find a bondsman to bond someone out.  Bondsman charge a non-refundable fee to you for their services.  After the inmate goes to court the bondsman gets their money back.  A normal fee for a bondsman is 10%, although that can change, especially at lower amounts, such as bonds under $1000.  Many bondsman don't think that fees under $200-$300 are worth their time.

    Good luck.

  2. A bail bondsman would charge you 10% or 75 bucks to get him out.  Consider leaving him in there for a while to learn from his mistake.  He is looking at higher insurance rates, probation, drug testing, and a bunch of sh't he could have avoided by acting like a grown up.

  3. Has he been in trouble before?  If not the courts will usually ten percent the fine which means you would only have to pay $75 to get him out.  Go speak to a public defender.  The jails are too populated for nonviolent offenders anyway.

  4. He should be getting out of there in 8 hours. IF he was only arrested for DUI, then he would only be held in the drunk tank until he sobers and be released. Of they found excessive marijuana, or hashish, then he would have to stay and get housed. Dont worry about bailing him out. Call the jail to verify his charges and ask if he is only being held there until he sobers up.
