After Cain killed his brother Able, in Gen 4:14 Cain says he is scared that after he is sent into exile by god anyone who he comes across will kill him. I thought that the only people who were on the earth at this time were Adam, Eve, Cain and Able and a few of there other brothers and sisters. Who was Cain so afraid of ? Please tell me if my question does not make sense and ill re phrase it. Thanks for your time. MP

  1. there were other people around besides them.

    it makes perfect sense.

  2.   On the 6th day God created man & woman together,at the same time. Each after their kind just like the animals. That is why we have all the different races. They were hunters & gatherers.

After God rested on the 7th day He made Adam and then later made Eve.Adam was a gardener.Cain was afraid of these other peoples from the 6th day creation,it is also where he got his wife.

  3. If you read Genesis carefully, you will read that in the creation God created man, and then the creation of Adam comes a little later. The Earth was full of plants animals and people when God created Adam. Adam was also made and then put in a special place ( Eden ) after the fall when he has the original sin episode by eating the fruit of the tree of knowledge of good and evil, God puts him on the Earth with Eve so they can not eat the tree of life after eating the forbidden fruit. They have Cain and Abel but the Earth is well developed in that God had long ago commanded mankind to be fruitful and multiply.

Many people do not like it when it is pointed out that the Bible has written in it things sometimes quite different than we are told about what it says.

  4. You'd have to ask my pastor.  Check www.hilltopcommunitychurch.com, Pastor Jim Heden.

  5. www.truthbook.com

  6. Adam representing a community , this is a mystery of  God's creation  even Cain build a city .

  7. By the time this occurred Adam and Eve could have had 100 other children by then

Able and his wife could have had 110 children by then and several hundred grandchildren by then.

Seth was born when Adam was 130 years old and it seems to me that Cain might have killed Able when Cain and Able were each over 125 years old.  Shortly before Seth was born.

So the people Cain was afraid of could have been the descendants of Able.

  8. There may have already been 3 or 4 or even more generations before the murder of Abel, so there would have been a good population of people who would want vengeance.

  9. Assuming Eve had Cain and Able first, those were her first two kids.  Assuming Cain killed Able when he was 30 years old, that means if Eve was able to have 1 child per year, she could have given birth to 30 children over the 30 years of Cain's life (unlikely.)  Assuming in the first 17 years, she gave birth to only girls, then from Cain's 13th birthday to when he was 30 and killed his brother, his little sisters could have started having children.  If each of those 17 girls started giving birth at 13 and could have a child a year (unlikely) Then the first girl could have had a child a year for the next 17 years, the next girl could have had a kid a year for the next 16 years, and so on.

    So, doing the math

    Mother           # of children possible

    Eve                30

    daughter 1      17

    daughter 2      16

    daughter 3      15

    daughter 4      14

    daughter 5      13

    daughter 6      12

    daughter 7      11

    daughter 8      10

    daughter 9      9

    daughter 10    8

    daughter 11    7

    daughter 12    6

    daughter 13    5

    daughter 14    4

    daughter 15    3

    daughter 16    2

    daughter 17    1

    Total possible siblings 183

Of course they'd all be little kids... hardly a threat to a 30 year old man.

That doesn't get rid  of the icky incest thing either.

  10. No one knows how long after the departure from Eden the Cain and Able story was written. It could have been many generations after.

  11. The thing you got to understand is....Cain and Able were NOT the only people on earth at that time!! And guess what else! We don't even for sure that Cain was even Adam and Eve's first child! The specific reason I say this is as follows:

    1. Verse 3 of chapter 4 says, "in the process of time." That is literally translated to say,"at the end of days." Now we don't know how much time has passed but surely Adam and Ever would have had more children. If not, then why would Cain make the statement that he did in Gen.4:14. Someone else had to be around.

    2. Cain and Abel, as you know are specifically mentioned. Just b/c they are didn't mean more people weren't around. This specific event was mentioned b/c it had to do with the murder of another sibling, that is why this was most definitely brought out. This event involved 2 of who knows how many other siblings. It was important and therefore brought out in the bible.

    3. There just HAD to be plenty of more people around! Cain went out and dwelt in the land of Nod. How could "the land of Nod" even EXIST if they were the only 2 people on earth. There would be no specific land. It would all be just earth.

Those are my views. Thanks for listening. God bless.

  12. As Genesis says, Adam and Eve had many sons and daughters. But besides that, the Bible says Adam was 130 years old when Seth was born. Now Eve expressed her feelings about this birth by saying "God has appointed another seed in place of Abel, because Cain Killed him."

So it would be reasonable that there was not a lot of time that had passed between the death of Abel and the birth of Seth.

We don't know how much age difference there is between Adam and Eve. But if you went to a BIG difference of say thirty years, (and that would be a BIG difference) that would mean Eve would have been 100 when Seth was born.

They, Adam and Eve, could have had many, many children. And those children could have had many, many children. And those children could have had many, many children. And on for another generation or two, just allowing twenty years between birth and marriage.

I just sat here with paper and pencil and figured that if each couple had 14 children, in 100 years you would have 5604 people on earth.

    2 - Adam and Eve

    14 - their children (15 minus Abel)

    98 - 14 for 7 couples

    686 - 14 for 49 couples

    4804 - 14 for 343 couples.

    5604 - TOTAL

And that is if there were equal men and women with 20 years "generation" and limiting it to 14 children.

So there were plenty of "others" for Cain to fear.
