A question about Preterm Labor: ?

I read an article in the hideous Parents' magazine about conceiving a child too soon after the birth of your first child.

If you conceive before your child's first birthday (12 months) you have a much greater risk of going into preterm labor.

Does anyone here have experience with this? My daughter was born in October 2007 and I conceived my second child in June.

  1. I got pregnant with my son when my daughter was only 8 months old. I had no problems, other than losing the baby weight from two pregnancies so close together. Preterm labor may be more common in that situation, but unless you have other risk factors or are experiencing symptoms of it, I wouldn't worry too much about it.

Congratulations!! It was busy having a toddler and a newborn but I loved it :).

  2. I don't think that is true! My friend has a 3,2 and 1 year old. With the 2 year old she didn't even wait the 6 weeks before getting pregnant again and no preterm. I got pregnant with my 2nd daughter when my first was 11 months old, I gave birth to a still born(not due to preterm) and didn't get pregnant for 13 years after that birth. I did however go in to preterm labor with her and there was a 13 year gap. So don't believe everthing you hear. GOOD LUCK AND CONGRATS!!!!

  3. My sister and law conceived 6 months after her first child was born. She did fine. I do not think that you have much to worry about.

  4. Nonsense: I conceived my 2nd child, when my 1st was 7 months, and I conceived my 4th child, when my 3rd was 10 months... No premature deliveries!

  5. While I haven't had exact experience with this, I am in a similiar situation.  My third child was born August 2007, and now pregnant with #4.  I found out I was pregnant in Feb. this year.  I also have read and heard that when you don't have a good amount of time between conceiving, your chance of preterm labor does increase. I do have a history of preterm labor, but I'm at 33 weeks and so far , so good.
