A question about Reality Television?

I've noticed something interesting about reality T.V. The first season is always the best, and then the show gets worse and worse after that.

Examples:

The Mole (cool challenges and a cool host)

Survivor (back in the day it was new and fresh)

The Real World (today it's almost a totally different show)

Big Brother (it's still okay, but the first few seasons were the best)

American Idol (when the show was actually about talent and had 3 judges)

Project Runway (I liked the designers more season one)

Top Chef (Katie Lee Joel sucked as host, but there was more talent)

Most shows have great first seasons. What's your opinion? Is there a show where it actually got better?

  1. Yeah, most reality shows are much better in the beginning because we are all excited about the challenges and the conflict...

After a few years, the show is all about the ratings so it is so obvious that the people they pick on the "reality" show is more for looks and conflicting personalities.

It's no longer "reality" because the situation was intentionally planned.

After a few years, you can pretty much typecast all the players... Dumb blonde, Tattooed guy, religious person, old guy, crazy grandma, g*y guy, etc...

All the tasks are the repeated... height challenge, eat something gross, stand on a log the longest, complete a puzzle...
