Question:

A question about State Tax Return check in 2009?

We are moving from one state to another in February and we're having our Fed. tax return check wired directly into our account but the State tax has to be mailed.

I was wondering if we have to have the State tax return check mailed to our current address or if we can have it mailed to a friends address in the state we are moving to.

We don't want to wait a whole month to move just to get the State Tax return check and we want to have it mailed to our friends house in the city we'll be moving to.

Will the Government allow this?

  1. why don't you put in for a change of address at the post office and they will forward it to wherever you are moving..If that isn't what you want to do when you feel out your taxes with the new banks routing number that you could set up in advance..best bet is to have it forwarded..

  2. I am not sure what you mean by "wired" instead of direct deposit for your federal refund.

What primitive state are you in that the state cannot do direct deposit?  If your new address is known, I would use that address when filing (for federal too, so you get forms the following year).

  3. Since each state is different and you don't say which one you are currently in, there's no way to answer your question.

Check your state's website but I don't think it will be a problem to have it mailed to you wherever you live when filing if they don't offer direct deposit.
