My friend and her family are bicycling thru Europe and right now they are in the UK. She has a question about a road sign: It is a blue circle with a red circle around the edge and a red X through it. What does that mean? Thanks!

  1. No stopping-clearway.

A driver must not stop on a length of road to which a clearway sign applies, unless the driver is driving a public bus, public minibus or taxi and is dropping off, or picking up, passengers.

No Stopping means no stopping at all – even if you are only letting someone out of the car, and regardless of whether you leave the engine running and stay in the car.

    Simon.
