well i applied at this place called dickeys. im not sure how far it stretches but its home is here in dallas and that is where i am at the moment. so anyway, the main guy said that people dont leave tips at the restaurant because its a self serve drink thing. i mean we gotta do everything else. i guess my rationalization isnt gonna make anyone leave tips but this is my question; is it uncommon for tips to be left at the table, seeing as how we would have to clean up after the costumers? thanks. have a great whatever.

  1. At a self serve place like a buffet, Souplantation, etc I usually leave about $1-2 per person tip

  2. if its self serve then dont except tips what you do is in your job discreption and you get paid by the hour for that i dont think you should get a tip because cleaning up our mess is what you are paid for fair for me i say sorri thats life get over it you already get a check

  3. He would know from experience.  However, I always leave a tip at a restaurant of that type.  It usually isn't 20% of the bill but  more like $5 or so per person at the table.

  4. you are right, people are suppose to leave a tip, however there are those that think because they serve themselves, they don't have to. But the proper thing is to leave something. YOU ARE THE ONES CLEANING OUR MESS. We leave a tip, not much but we do $3.00 or $4.00. Good luck.

  5. Usually its common for tips to be left at the table, so when the waiter/waitress cleans they can say, "gee theres money here for me, and i shall take it and continue working"...thats the old fashioned way.

  6. No people realize that even at buffets where the server just clears plates, you leave a tip.....maybe you are a better server and he is trying to scare you away becuase he performs so poorly

  7. make sure the "main" guy isn't swooping by your tables before you and taking your tips.

I always tip even at buffets - then again I've been waiting tables on and off for over 20 years

  8. Perhaps he was trying to shoot down your expectations that people leave fat tips at this restaraunt. Its really varies from place to place and from customer to customer. If people see you clean up a table for them to sit in and you did a good job, they may leave a tip for you. I second the motion about the main guy swooping in on your tips. Watch your tables. good luck with the job. LJK.
