Question:

A question about abortion?

I know Islam does not permit abortion except in cases of danger to the mother, but I was wondering how you feel about government interference in this issue? Since there is no compulsion in Islam, faith is solely between Allah and a person, and only Allah can judge, do you think it should be against the law? Or do you think the woman should make the decision and Allah decide the consequences?

(I am really curious because the "pro-life" movement versus the "pro-choice" movement in the U.S. is really a "pro-government-interference" movement versus an "anti-government-interference" movement.)

Thanks!

  1. here come the thumbs down....

i say its the mothers choice

  2. I'm confused...???

  3. The government should let women who want abortions, get them.

If it was an Islamic country, then the government should ban them.

And whoever wants an abortion can do so in a non Islamic country.

She will be judged by Allah (SWT), and should not be judged by people

  4. I don't think the government should have anything to do with it.

However, i also don't think the women have a right to abort the baby, because it is after all killing it. Kind of like murdering it in cold blood. It may be a baby (born or unborn yet, in either case it is still alive), but it is still an innocent human being and no one has the right to take away a life.

  5. Not to get you more confused but one of the 10 commandments is thy shall not Kill. The goverment only runs as much of your life as you fore let/You can live without crossing the government laws as well as follow thy almighty rules .The governments has many rules half the officers or Judges you stop can tell you all of them as well withouth having to look in a book. When in truth GOD on gave us 10/For as one who kills a child for whatever reason it for GOD to Judge. There is not easy answer to your ? without one falsely mis leading.

  6. I personally think it should be the womans choice and it should be between her and God (or Allah) (IMO)

  7. Abortion is not about just being a sin to kill an unborn child...

when a woman is pregnant it means she has been blessed... if it happens out of marriage then she and he accomplice should take responsibility.

~(when a woman has been raped she should go to hospital and get a wash to avoid unwanted pregnancy but should do it immediately)

when a woman aborts it has a lot of serious consequences mental and a guilt feeling which will never go away..

that is as far as goes the individual....

now as far as the state goes the state has the obligation to protect his citizens... the unborn child is a potential citizen.. some states take this line, other say that unless the child is able to live without the mother's womb then it cannot be considered yet....

however I think that aborting babies is just disgusting and i find disgusting all women who actually do it...

children can bring such joy and i think that it's outright selfish to abort a healthy baby.

the woman had the choice to be responsible before getting pregnant

it is not a question of religion it is a question of morality... human nature.. abortion goes contrary to human nature it is bad and noone should allow it

the baby is not the mother's it is the mother's and the father's... infact if the mother want to abort and the father wants the baby he has a right to go to court and appoint a curtator for the womb.. and if the mother aborts she will be criminally liable..

  8. Islam does not allow for free will.

    33:36

It is not for a believer, man or woman, when Allâh and His Messenger have decreed a matter that they should have any option in their decision. And whoever disobeys Allâh and His Messenger, he has indeed strayed in a plain error.

The Hanafi school (predominant in Turkey, the Middle East and Central Asia) allows abortions to take place principally until day 120; some jurists restrict this provision to "good cause", e.g. if the mother is still nursing an infant and fears that her milk may run out during the new pregnancy. In aborting up to day 120, the woman commits a mere moral transgression, not a crime. The Shafi school (Southeast Asia, southern Arabia, parts of East Africa) allows abortions to be performed up to day 120. For the Maliki school (prevalent in North and Black Africa) an abortion is permissible with the consent of both parents up to day 40; it is no longer allowed after that. For the Hanbali school (predominant in Saudi Arabia and United Arabic Emirates) abortions are principally prohibited from day 40 onward.

Exceptions are made in some countries if the life of the mother is endangered, based on Surah 2.233: "A mother should not be made to suffer because of her child." As a result, abortion is possible for health reasons up to day 90 according to a number of scholars.

The eminent Muslim scholar, Sheikh Yusuf Al-Qaradawi states in his well-known book, "The Lawful and the Prohibited in Islam":

"While Islam permits preventing pregnancy for valid reasons, it does not allow doing violence to it once it occurs.

Muslim jurists have agreed unanimously that after the fetus is completely formed and has been given a soul, abortion is Haram. It is also a crime, the commission of which is prohibited to the Muslim because it constitutes an offense against a complete, living human being. Jurists insist that the payment of blood money (diya) becomes incumbent if the baby is aborted alive and then died, while a fine of lesser amount is to be paid if it is aborted dead.

However, there is one exceptional situation. If, say the jurists, after the baby is completely formed, it is reliably shown that the continuation of the pregnancy would necessarily result in the death of the mother, then, in accordance with the general principle of the Shari'ah, that of choosing the lesser of two evils, abortion must be performed.

  9. abortion is sickening if its not in the case of rape. seriously you should have thought about the consequences before doing the "dirty"!

  10. Does every woman possess free will according to Islam? Yes. So women should have the final say to whether or not they would like the abortion to go through. think about it if you had a sister has been raped would you want her go through with the pregnancy? The government should stay out of things which revolve around religion.

  11. Astagfirullah

We have free will. 1 to 120 does that make a difference. WoW

We make choices Allah gives us our consequences.

What a woman does with her body from when she is of age until her death is between her and Allah. And she definately has free will.

    May Allah help us.
