Question:

A question about bathing a kitten with parasites and diarrhea (info provided)

My kitten, Harley, is 3 months old. He got some serious diarrhea over the weekend, so we took him to the vet yesterday. They said he somehow got Giardia, but we don't know how-- he's indoors only and fully vaccinated.

I want to give him a really good bath today b/c he's gotten diarrhea all over his fur. Since there are parasites in his p**p (he's on meds now), I was thinking about using Dawn antibacterial dish/hand soap. Do you think this will be safe enough for his delicate skin, yet kill the parasites and remove all of the dried up diarrhea?

He seems to be doing a little better today. We steam cleaned all of the carpet in the house and bleached all hard surfaces yesterday. We also bleached out her litter box, bought him his own, and bleached all the food and water bowls. If you can think of anything else to help prevent out other kitten from getting it, please let me know.

  1. Your kitten's little body is under quite a bit of stress right now.  I would not give him a bath. If he ingests any of the soap, that will make the diarrhea worse.

If you are concerned about cleaning him properly, check with your vet and see what they recommend.

    Good Luck!

  2. i try to get the dry crust off him by rinsing him first in warm water. I use a hand soap like soft soap. It has the germ killing and use some conditioner on the kitten fur. The anti-bateral soaps will dry the skin out. You can read up on the parasite.
