i was doing some research on cartilage pierces because i really really want one. i was also searching on yahoo answers to see how much it hurt for different people. but i came across some people strongly saying not to get it done with a gun, but to get it done with a needle. i was going to get it done at Claire's or Icing by Claire's. Do they use guns? Also what is the reason that people are saying don't use guns? If you have a cartilage piercing please tell me wher eyou got it done, if they used a gun, how much it hurt, healing time....etc. everyones advice helps here. thanks so much!

  1. I've never gotten a cartilage piercing, but I've seen many people get them. They've said it hurt a little bit more than a regular ear lobe piercing; however, it's not unbearably bad. It's just a little bit more sore on your ear.

DON'T get it done with a gun! Using a gun to pierce your cartilage can and most likely will shatter the surrounding cartilage in your ear, damaging nerves and making it very uncomfortable for several consecutive years. Yes, Icing and Claires do use a gun, so I'd suggest not going there. You should probably go to a piercing shop/tattoo shop. Don't be afraid to ask to interview them before you get your piercing done; you're sticking foreign objects into your body, you don't want it to be a sloppy job.

Other than that, just clean it really well.

  2. I got it done with a gun several years ago, at Claire's.  Sorry to scare you, but it hurt like a mother.  If you have regular earlobe piercings, I'd say expect 4 or 5 times the pain.

I wouldn't go to Claire's.  They sort of did mine at an angle, so it was hard to put an earring in right.  It was constantly infected, and never did heal.  After a few months, I was in so much pain that I took it out.  Now I have a big ol' scar.  I would go to a professional.  The people at Clarie's probably don't have a whole lot of training.  I bet a needle would be more accurate and maybe hurt less.

  3. well the in my state it's illegal to use piercings guns because you run at the risk of shattering the cartilage (def not good and hurts!!) it damages your nerves and it's painful for years. get a needle it's fast and safer. And don't get it done at claires or icing they are very unprofessional my friend got it there and the lady had to pierce her ear 3 diffrent time because she kept messing up!! I've hurd some pretty bad stories about claires, and they don't give you the sea salt to soak your ear in for healing and cleaing (it doesn't burn it feels good it's not like table salt) I would def suggest getting it don't at a piercing shop or tattoo parlor they are more professional and know what they are doing and get a needle. also the guns make the whole close faster with skin. hope this helps also if they pierce it with a gun often the pierce it at the wrong angle and it heals faster anyways if you get it with a need.

I've gotten 3 of my cartilage piercings at tattoo shops and piercings shops and they all turned out great and didn't get infected when I got mine pierced I didn't even know they did it I was like uh are you going to pierce it already?? and they were just like already done!! it's not bad at all.

    good luck :)

haha you said you were scared to go to a tattoo or piercings shop why? Do you think it will be intimidating? Hahaha it's fine that's what I thought too but the people are actually really nicee don't worry about it bring a friend :))

  4. i got mine done when i was in like 5th grade at Peircing Pogota..

it didnt hurt at all.. and im a baby :D

it just hurt a little afterwards.. and you cant really sleep on the side you got it done on.  but no worries.. it doesnt hurt any more than just getting your regular lobes done.

    hope i helped!

  5. i got mine done at icing and it barely hurt at all. i dont really know what it was they used but it was like this automatic thing that just pinches it in. i dont remember what its called. but it didnt hurt.

  6. Do not not not not go to claires or icing for a cartilage piercing. You need to have it done with a needle. It is way less painful and the piercings done with needles heal much quicker. The bad thing about the gun is that it just pushes the cartilage out of the way to make the jewelry fit while the needle removes a piece of the cartilage and replaces it with the jewelry. It is definitely not as painful as it sounds. I got my first cartilage piercing by claires with a gun and it took forever to heal and was very painful.

I just got my industrial ( two cartilage piercings with a bar connecting them)  with a needle and it healed so much quicker (1 month) versus the long healing of the gun (3 months to stop being sore)
