A question about cavities

Here's my story:

I found out I had a hole in one of my molars in the middle of July. I didn't worry too much about it because I thought I just had deep grooves in my molar. Then today I found out the hole looked a bit deeper and it turned into a blackish-brownish color, now I am sure it is a cavity. I'm 19 never had a cavity on my permanent teeth before and I take good care of my teeth my brushing and flossing, so I am quite surprised to find out I have a cavity.

So here are my questions...

-How fast do cavities usually develop?

-How long will it take to turn into a serious cavity that have pain and reach into the dentin of the tooth?

-I can't go to a dentist for a appointment until Oct. 13 for a deep cleaning/checkup. Is that too long to wait for them to take a look at my cavity and to fix it?

  1. THE VERY FACT YOU WILL  SEE A DENTIST IS A VERY GOOD THING. THERE IS NO PARTICULAR SCHEDULE FOR THE FORMATION OF CARIES.

DIET, ESPECIALLY SWEETS HAS A BIG IMPACT ON THE SPEED OF FORMATION.
