A question about claiming tax back?

i am on the wrong tax code because i couldn't find my P45 to give to my new job. I have now found it, i will hand it in on monday, will i automatically receive a tax re bait or will i have to apply for it? If i have to apply how will i go about this?

  1. your wages dept will deal with it/if tax has been overpaid because you were on emergency coding you will get refund


  2. everytime this has happened to me ive just give the tax office a call and they process it straight away, i think if u left it to them it would get done but would take longer.


  3. You will have to call the tax office if you think you have paid the wrong tax. Ring them Up but keep the tax code written down so you know it.  

  4. If there is a cumulative code number shown on form P45, your employer will adjust automatically, and you should receive refund in the next payroll calculared after employer receives form P45.

    You will only need to contact tax office if P45 shows a week/month 1 code number. Staff will tell you what further information is needed.
