I'm thinking of getting a dental flipper to replace a missing canine tooth..what should I know about it? How much is it? What is involved in getting one? How long do they last? Do I take it out to eat?

Thank You

  1. When I had a tooth broken playing hockey I got one until the surgeries were done. They snap into place and hold. If the dentist gets the color right, they look very natural. It will feel funny for a few days (you may lisp) but you will adapt. i always took it out to eat unless I was at a restaurant. I think mine was in the $700 range.

  2. A flipper is generally a cheap alternative to replacing a missing tooth.  Usually will cost a couple of hundred dollars at most.  The dentist will take a mold of the teeth and then have it made from your mold.  They can be difficult to eat with because they are kind of cheap.  They function best just for looks and to keep the space from closing.  They can last for several years but are generally a temporary alternative until something more permanent can be done.
