I've signed up for a broadband package with a download allowance of 10 GB. Could somebody please tell me how big this is as I'm not really familiar with computers.

Thank You

  1. I use about 8 to 10 Gb an month but what ever you do adds to your total of Internet usage.

To explain simply, open your browser download, click on a link upload, next page download, click to watch a video upload, watch it download and so on.

If you want to watch your totals go to >

    http://www.hootech.com/netmeter

With it you can set your cap and it displays a running display total of your usage. It keeps written running logs on a daily, weekly and monthly basis. It also works out what you have used and what you have left till the end of the month, as well what you have left for each day.

  2. This is a huge amount, well over a thousand songs worth. I have an 8GB download limit and I've never exceeded it, although I thought that I downloaded quite a lot of stuff. Trust me, with such a large download limit you won't even know it exists.

  3. 10GB allowance is about:

80,000,000 characters viewed on the internet, you've just used up 91 reading this sentence.

    25 hours of online television.

    2500 hours of online radio.

    15,000 pictures online.

This estimates I've given you however are just only using the selected mediums, you will however of course probably use all 5 types in your allowance.

However, in retrospect, 10GB allowance isn't really that much, most internet providers I know of give about 30GB allowance.

So yeah, that's a better figure for you to work around.

  4. for me i would use that up in 2 days, but i download a lot.

befor you start using your internet, go to www.download.com and search for and download a program called cost aware, once you install it, put in your download limmit which will be 10000MB and it will total up all your usage and you should know how much you have left each month.

you can always go onto a diffrent package if you find your using it more then you thought. but usually in the first month you use a lot because you just got it, and you want to download a lot of stuff.

if it's just for general internet surfing, and the odd video, you will never be able to use that much in a month. if you start downloading things like movies, music, games and things like that, you will use it up in a day.

    Edit_

I have that program, and cleared it 2 months ago, just checked it now and i have downloaded in 2 months 67GB. lol thats a lot!!

  5. Okay in terms of blank cds its about  15 CDs worth of space.

By blank DVD you're looking at about 2 or 2.5 DVDs worth of space.

  6. the size you would need knowing nothing....Go for it!!

  7. Every page you view is a download, every image on a page is a large download, just to view them. Music and videos take up a lot more. And if you use torrents it will disappear rapidly, I have known people wipe this much out in a week.

  8. If you don't download films, you'll be very unlikely to hit the limit.
