Limewire is illegal right?

So if I ask somebody else to download music for me (off their computer) to send to me, could I get in trouble? or is it the person who has limewire downloaded?

  1. Well it would be the person who downloaded the music who would be breaking the law. Limewire itself is not illegal (if it were illegal it would have been removed from the internent by now) but downloading copyrighted files like music and films is illegal. Another reason aside from the legal aspect of using Limewire is that files downloaded from it are well known for containing viruses and spyware, which don't do a computer any good at all. I had Limewire for a short while and when I ran an antivirus scan, it completely deleted Limewire, it was that full of viruses! So steer well clear of Limewire is the best bet.

  2. Technically it is illegal. You shouldn't share music that is copyrighted like that. However, paying for music is accepted and you can pay for limewire. The free version of limewire is available though...most illegal websites and programs have been shut down but this one hasn't.

  3. Limewire is not illegal. Downloading protected content is.

  4. Limewie isnt illegal, downloading copyrighted content is, hence why LW is still available.

You would not get in trouble your friend would!

But there are other ways, I rip mine from youtube and myspace using firefox!

  5. why worry no one else does

  6. Just download limewire and download songs,

    do it.

  7. LimeWire is entirely legal, and while many of the things people download with it are copyrighted, enforcement of copyright laws in America is almost entirely a civil thing dealt with through private lawsuits. Unless you're involved in a p****y syndicate or 0-day warez team, the FBI seriously does not care what you do with LimerWire. Seriously, not one bit. The actual problem is that hollywood and record companies pay people to post decoy files on LimeWire. Download a certain one and an IP adress which is a fingerprint for their PC gets taken down. A lawsuit letter may very occasionally follow. The threats will come to the house of the downloader, not you.

Also, while it's illegal to posess copyrighted works for which you don't own a license to, I've never heard of an arrest or lawsuit that didn't involve somebody personally doing the downloading. If anyone were to get in trouble, it would be your friend.
