If you dont know what it is, -google image search-.

But Im sure most of you are smart enough to know what it is.

Anyways..

What does it want from me?!

I see at least 1-3 a week and it really creeps me out.

And what do they do, exactly.

Ive also noticed they were somewhat attracted to my dogs waterbowl and damp towels. So do they like water or something?

  1. They are little scavengers that like moist places.  They want you to squish them.  "Please please squish me dead!" they sing.   "Squish us!"

Or wear them in your ears while watching that old B&W horror flick about they guy who got one laying eggs in his brain.  Really a goodie of a B movie.

  2. i wonder why they call them earwigs

  3. they're just a bug, like an ant except they look way creepier, they dont really do anything except try to survive lol.  they like dark cracks so they could crawl inside your ear but that almost never happens. and yeah they like wet places. and the creepy tail they use it for holding down their food, so its not like, a stinger

  4. This is just the year that they pop up.  Like many other organisms, they have seasonal mass emergences (the most well known examples are probably cicadas).  This population is on a 3-year life cycle.

They like water, especially soapy water.  And dark spaces (they are nocturnal).  Make sure you rinse your dishes well.

I hate them too just as passionately (I hate them more than any other bug, even those hairy centipedes), but they're really quite harmless.  The most disgusting ones have wings, just be happy you haven't seen those ones (if you have, I sympathize).

Suck it up for the summer, and they'll be gone for 3 years!  Let the silverfish come, I can deal with them better.

  5. You can't google that?

  6. Here are some easy ways to deal with them -

Don't kill them or spray pesticides (pesticides kill other insects as well ).

Go for environment friendly and harmless ways to deal with them.

  7. they are common as all h**l so yeah you're going to see them.. just like spiders and dragonflys.. earwids are our friends. as they eat other insects..

they are harmless to people, but can pinch.. that thing on their back end really is used to pinch.. it wont cut you or anything but it should hurt..

they live in places like rotting logs and forest floors so they are somewhat attracted to high humidity
