  2. Houston - we have a problem!!!!!!!!!!!!

Your soffit should nail into the bottom of your wood fascia board (usually a 2" x6"), and it slips into a j-channel or F channel at the back up against the house. The j-channel or F channel is ran level with the bottom of the wood fascia board.

After you have installed the soffit you can either purchase pre-made fasica cover in aluminum or vinyl. It simply slips up under the metal roof edge and then is placed flat against the wood fascia board . The fascia has about a 1" lip on the bottom . This lip covers the raw edges of the soffit you previously installed. Nail the fasica cover into the wood fasica with 1-1/4" stainless steel trim nails in a color to match your fascia cover.

We always install a 2" x 2" soffit nailer at the wall of the house or building, and then attach our j-channel or F channel to that. It is more secure than just an f channel.

Anyway you don't have to hook fascia into any f trim.

This applies to eave and rake fascia. If you have a gable end where rake and eave fascia meet you need to box out these corners or return the fascia around the gable end a few feet. We call this an eyebrow wrap.
