Ok awhile ago I tried to get my turtle to eat pellets and he never came around and I did some research and I found a method to entire eating pellets, and what I found was that I can soak the pellets in tuna water for a short while and then leave them out to harden. I was wondering has anyone tried this and do you believe this can work?

  1. I have a small cup that I soak my pellets in for about 10 minutes so they are soft before feeding.  I use 3 different types of pellets (alternate days) and she eats them like a pig.  Also vary the diet depending on species (i.e. feeder guppies, insects (domestic), veggie matter).

  2. Sigh.  A million times a day, I type "WHAT kind of turtle IS this?"

Land?  Water?  And what's its present diet?  Hold old it is, and how long have you had it?

I'd love to just type "yeah, dats grand" for 10 pts.!!!

I can't help you with this question.  You might want to go back to add, and tell us a bit about what it eats, and what KIND of turtle it IS.

Failing that - email me at oxo_sensual_oxo@yahoo.com and I'll be be happy to discuss it one on one.

I offer this often, and am amazed how few do mail.  So, good luck with the answers you get, and I hope that's a good thing for you and the turtle.

A hungry animal will eat anything to survive.  Wouldn't you?

  3. Aquatic / Water turtle? Why soak the pellets?

Ok if you have a Sliders, cooter, painted, map, yellow bellied all are basically the same and require the same basic care. I have had my 2 slider  girls for 36 yrs. Plus an 8 and 5 yr old and now a in a pond for 7 yrs.

    They eat and need fish..

The bigger the environment the bigger the healthier the turtle.

Did you know that they need to bask under a reptile light UVA for 8 to 10 hrs a day for the vitamin D that they need to grow. So that means getting a turtle dock also.

Leave the heater on 75 to 78 degrees always.

Their water needs to be clean otherwise they get sick easily from dirty water cause they p**p allot.

You need a good filter system! Gravel larger than they can swallow.

You need to feed them feeder guppies, goldfish or minnows for protein and calcium daily drop 20 or so in the tanks and watch them disappear! This way when they swim for their dinner they get exercise also!

They need leafy greens( Romaine, Butter lettuce. Iceberg and cabbage are bad for them, any leafy greens will do) for vitamin A that they need at least 3 to 4 times a week.

You probably already know that they get sick easily, shell rot, respiratory sickness, lopsided swimming, coughing, blowing bubbles
