A question about feminism, education and marriage?

A lot of times when the topic of divorce comes up and it's prevalence within the American society many American women say that some men might prefer non american women because such women would be uneducated and submissive.....this often made me wonder why such women would be considered uneducated, a lot on non american women who marry american men have college degrees and work, many of them even come to the US and to get degrees and jobs, yet because they do not fit the image of the modern feminist american woman when it comes to marriage(the carrie bradshaw type) they are considered uneducated and overly submissive even though most of the times non american women work just as hard and are quite happy with their marriages and the divorce rates in marriages between american men and non american women is a lot lower than those with american women....

Your two questions have little to do with each other. Why Americans assume foreigners are less educated is a mystery. It certainly isn't' true.

The reasons for divorce rates in immigrant women probably has far more to do with religious and community expectations than it does education.

Most American women don't assume this. They spend more of their time pointing out the overt racism involved in the assumption that foreign women are more submissive — an assumption typically held by American men.

By the way, Carrie Bradshaw is NOT a feminist. She's about as far removed from feminism as Samantha Jones is removed from virginity.

EDIT: I can't give you the answer to that one. Ask a foreign woman married to an American man if you want a straight answer.

That's funny, I heard a lot of foreign men say American women are the ones that are dumb. Especially men that I knew that were from Africa. I had a friend who married a man from Africa that used her for her papers. He cheated on her, gave her a STD, lied to her and beat her. I also now a lot of Non American women that are not happily married. They were married out of obligation.

What is below the conscious level with most of these women is that they have a tremendous feeling of entitlement when it comes to men and relationships and very often instead of appearing to be strong and indipendent as they wish to appear they end up looking b"tchy and annoying, moreover while a lot of them can tell you everything they expect from a man, very few would be able to tell you what is expected of them (they actually act in reverse, men are expected to respect and revere the woman but women who refuse to do this for their men are viewed as "strong and indipendent") and that's what i think is the main reason why some men would prefer women from outside, many of those women are raised in a culture that teaches respect on both sides , while i concede that there are many sexist culture out there, there are a lot of cultures where respect is expected from both sides not just one,another reason why the divorce rat is so high is that women in america have gotten used to it and most of the time they benefit from it too (a housewife who contributed very little financially can end up earning half of the man's property,having physical custody of the children, keeping the house that the man bought,receiving alimony and child support while the man is left destitute) whereas a lot of non american wiomen tend to be less likely to divorce and s***w their men over in such manner thus they become a better option for some men.....i understand your curiosity persoally i think that such stereotyping of non american women is to make the "American women" feel better about themselves. LOL. It is easier to say..that "they" are wrong, rather than admit...that it was the "American woman" that is wrong.

When we say that men prefer non-American women because they are more likely to be uneducated and submissive, we ARE NOT talking about the exceptions.  We are not talking about the women who come here from other countries, marry American men, and work as doctors, etc.  I'm sure there are many, but when you think of the typical foreign woman from ....say Thailand, one usually thinks of someone more traditional.  I think you're just misinterpreting what people are saying - the statement is basically that men prefer traditional women, and you're more likely to find a traditional woman in some foreign countries than you are in the U.S. (or at least on the West coast!)

And in response to the answer below me....I'm pretty sure there are dumb women who put up with too much from men in EVERY country, not just the U.S.
