  1. It leaks out, goes down the storm drains and out into the bay or lake where your drinking water comes from

  2. Garbage trucks get pretty gross and yes the liquid in them can become pretty disgusting but the garbage men know how to keep the environment safe.  So while some liquid does escape from the truck most of it does go to the dump.  You should watch Dirty Jobs with Mike Rowe he has done several trips to landfills and cleaning garbage trucks.  So while it is important to know what you are putting into the trash when was the last time you saw a garbage truck leaking.  Keep a watch on labels of cleaners and chemicals you might have to take them to a special dump.

  3. it go down the storm drain.

  4. For the most part the minimal amount of liquid wastes that are squeezed out of garbage remain with the load and are dumped out at the landfill.

As I experience while on FEMA detail in New Orleans the excess liquid is squeezed out and it comes out the back of the truck and lands on the street.  I had about 50 gallons of gray green stinky stuff dropped at my feet as a garbage truck was turning a corner and compressing his load after picking up household flood debris that had been sitting on the curb for three weeks.  I'm glad I can't smell in bad dreams.

  5. Did you ever notice there were times when you followed a truck and had to run your windshield wipers ... but it was a sunny day with no apparent rain ... and they had trouble clearing the "rain?"
