A question about gasoline direct fuel injection?

DFI sprays fuel directly into the cylinder, into the combustion chamber. How is this different from regular fuel injection which sprays from the top of the cylinder? Both are entering the cylinder and combustion chamber, DFI is just sprayed in horizontally and from the side.

  1. Regular fuel injection sprays the fuel outside the cylinder just above the intake valve, inside the intake manifold.
