A question about ghosts?

Question

I have only heard people's stories of ghosts moving things, whispers, etc. I personally have experienced the footsteps phenomena, so I will stick to that. My question is since all they are is energy, how he h**l can I hear the contact of this energy to the floor in the form of footsteps? I am baffled at what how this occurs.

I am pretty educated at the whole investigative part but do not understand the logic behind it

Good question...

I can give you an answer on that, even if not residual, you can still hear sounds they make. I even held hands with a spirit, I have touch them, you can feel them if they allow you to.....I know this sounds crazy. But it's true, even their voice is so real speaking out loud. I head that once the sound of boots coming up the stairs, I even saw it's shadow walk by in the corner of my eye, not paying any attention at the time, I thought it was a friend coming up the stairs, but no one was up stairs with me as I went to check.

The only thing I can say to give an answers is they have the spiritual energy to create.....like God is Spirit....God creates with thought.....are souls are the thoughts of God.

i don't actually think ghosts are energy ...i think they are spirits with energy...i see them and feel them.i am 100% that my house is haunted by a 5 year old child ...so good luck with the steps

Most hauntings are what are called residual hauntings. Most ghost / Spirits that are acually seen or heard are residual hauntings. A residual haunting is the spent energy from an event that has happened at previous time and is absorbed into the atmosphere. It is absorbed by walls floors and such and depending on the structural materal has allot to do with how long they continue. At some point atmopsheric conditions change and the energy from the event is released like a film clip and can replay over and over. You will see / hear the same thing over and over, it never changes. An intelligent haunting is different. It is rarely seen. It's heard allot in different ways or moves, hides and trys to make contact in allot of different ways but seldom manifests as a body. This is a tough field to be in because so much is based on speculation and there are too many variable of the unknown, saying this, that eliminates "so called" experts, there are none. I have been a paranormal investigator since 1972 and it never amazes how ghost / spirits make their selves know, there is something new all of the time. Their are some consistancies but, not allot. The paranormal field, will be investigated,, probably forever. I hoped this helps a little

Contrary to the opinions (and misinformation) that YA skeptics like to post there is well researched and well acknowledged publication bias in almost every scientific publication and no matter how solid any evidence was (and I agree that at this point it is not) most scientific journals would reject any article with the word ghost or haunting in the title. In fact many papers submitted for publication regarding parapsychology are suggested for publication by the peer review panels and rejected due to the bias of the editor.

This is why the Journal of Parapsychology and other peer review scientific journals exist for the field of Parapsychology.

That said there are two very good theories to address your question and one is considered "normal" main stream science.

First, the "normal" one. William Roll has spent years correlating haunting effects with electro magnetic fields and other environmental conditions. The brain is in part an electrical device. Thus, it is possible that certain environmental conditions would trigger memories in your brain. If you have ever heard the sound of footsteps you have this memory to access and it can be fired into your senses as sound. This was experimentally confirmed many years ago by Wilder Penfield the neurosurgeon that when stimulating parts of the brain to access memory also accessed sensory perception. In other words you didn't just recall the smell of baking bread you would actually smell again the smell of baking bread.

No further energy than that of your brain and environment is required.

Next, if objects (floors, walls, etc.) have information encoded in them and several theories from quantum physics suggest this is the case then your brain through ESP, Universal Consciousness, or a Quantum Information Field (whatever term if your prefer) may be able to pick up that information. Then your conscious mind in order to access and process that information in a way that makes sense to you may present itself via how humans learn most information (vision and hearing).

Granted as the skeptics have suggested you have to eliminate expanding and contracting wood floors and pipes with differing temperatures at night and other normal explanations.

However, since you said you were experienced in investigating I'm going to give you the benefit of the doubt (unlike the skeptics) and presume that you already know that and you have successfully graduated from elementary school by at least a few years.

Contrary to what you may hear, there is nowhere near enough evidence to state that the existence of entities is factual or that they can interact with the physical. If there was, you'd be reading about it in Scientific American or your college physics texts. For that matter, there isn't even enough evidence to even support a hypothesis to that effect. Moreover, there are conjectures a-plenty but there are no valid scientific theories which explain ghosts as being "energy", since ghosts aren't testable and such a theory would not be falsifiable. So, basically you really don't have any facts to go on here.

Here is a more probable explanation for the footsteps you heard: expansion and contraction of the wooden beams, girders or flooring in your house. Wood expands and contracts with temperature and humidity and this is well known to cause knocks and sometimes repeating knocks as the built-up stress is being relaxed. Another source of repeating knocks that can be mistaken as footsteps is the plumbing. A loose pipe in the wall can certainly knock repeatedly.

That's a really good question! I gave you a star. There are so many things like this that we don't even think about. That's kinda like ghosts fighting with each other. How do you hit someone who is a ghost when your hand would go right through them. And the footsteps. I don't know why their feet  don't go through the steps and the floor. So it must be more than energy (because I do believe that people really do hear footsteps etc.) I can see how they could knock a statue off a table etc. ..but I'm having trouble too...understanding how their feet can make a noise on the floor or steps. Maybe a scientist who believes in the paranormal will have an answer....except I'm not sure we have any.Oh..maybe Psi will know!!

my guess is you have hardwood floors. If you have carpet, look under it.

Temperature changes cause the boards to expand and contract, making it sound like footsteps.

Our whole house is hardwood flooring and at times it can sounds like some one walking around. It took some investigating on my part to figure out the cause of it.

That WAS an Excellent question, and I haven't heard it much over the 28 years I've been a Paranormal Examiner.  

Let me try to answer you....

Many learned persons in the Field have postulated that the Energy residuals that are present during Activity don't conform to the Laws of Physics as we know them.

It is Factual (with Video to support it) that entities can cause physical interaction with objects and persons.  Why?  As the energy in a constant state of Flux, the entity may have the ability to alter the energy field to accomplish Physical contact.  As no one has gone over there to that State and come back, we are postulating.  But.....there is significant evidence to support such a premise.

Some of the sounds that are heard are of a Residual nature, which can be likened to a videotape that plays out and rewinds in a constant loop.  The activity will happen, regardless if anyone is present or not.  Some theorize that this is a result of energy in the form of a Memorygram is actually trapped by the Energy Field of the location....and the observer is seeing or hearing an echo from the Past.

I am Degreed in Psychology, with an emphasis on Parapsychology - Graduate Level.  But, for every Question I seem to be able to come up with a Logical "answer" for......4 more Baffling questions present themselves.  It's a never-ending scenario.  

That's why every person that examines the Paranormal must be able to complement that with the Research that is necessary.  Eventually, with enough Serious persons dealing with the Paranormal on a Scientific and Objective basis, perhaps a compilation of Datum from theses persons will lead to more Answers.  

One can only proceed forward and continue to seek the Answers to all of the Questions that present themselves in this Challenging Field.
