A question about icing

is it possible to make icing with no icing sugar? It is for a chocolate cake and i can't get to the store.

  1. the BEST icing is ganache



    1 cup cream

    2 cups chocolate chips

    heat cream on stove til just before boiling. dump in chips. cover. let sit 5-8 min.. whisk. will thicken as cools.

    i've been known to use milk if i don't have any cream. just use less and add some butter.  it's the only icing that my kids will eat now.


  2. icing is made up of mostly sugar..... you wouldn't be able to make a traditional icing for your cake...... but you could try and be creative.  

    I would experiment.    Melt some butter down.... and try adding almond extract or vanilla extract to it for some flavor....... then you could drizzle it along the top of the cake.

    Or else if you have any chocolate or chocolate chips..... you could melt this down and drizzle that along the top of the cake.

  3. 1/4 cup milk, 1 bag chocolate chips 2tbsp butter.

    boil all ingredients on low heat constantly stirring, have a cup of cool water to the side and ever now-and-then put a drop of the icing in it; when the droplet of icing does not dissolve in the water, when it stays together as a ball it is ready to take off the heat.  Partially cool and add 1tsp of vanilla extract then ice the cake!

  6. you could do a really simple icing consisting of powdered sugar and then add water until it gets a nice consistency. it won't be like regular icing for cupcakes and stuff like that but it will be like something you can drizzle on top.. you could try adding cocoa powder ?  

  7. VIENNESE GLAZE

    4 foil wrapped bars ( 8 oz ) semi- sweet chocolate baking bar

    2/3 cup heavy cream

    3 TBSP powdered sugar

    1/4 tsp vanilla

    In med pan over low heat

    Combine chocolate bars, heavey cream, and powdered sugar

    Stir untill mixture is smooth

    Add vanilla

    Transfer to small bowl

    Cool to room temp

    Pour over cake

    Yummy Fudge Frosting

    1 can sweetened condensed milk

    12 ounces semisweet chocolate chips

    Cook in the top of a double boiler over boiling water until melted and smooth

    Chocolate Frosting - Sugar Free

    1 package dream whip (1 envelope)

    1/2 teaspoon vanilla

    1/2 cup skim milk

    1 package sugarfree choc. pudding(2oz)

    Blend together skim milk, vanilla, and dream whip (or sugarfree whipped topping mix). Beat til stiff. Add pudding mix and continue to beat til light and fluffy.
