if you draw your own image that is based on a copyrighted image, does it still violate copyright laws?

for example there was an episode of family guy with minnie mouse in it (very briefly) and she was re-drawn in a slightly modified style but still recognizable as the original disney character. how is this sort of thing approached in terms of copyright??

  1. if you draw a pic of a mcdonalds sign you own the copyright to the pic you draw but mcdonalds still owns the copyright to their logo and trademarks.  


  2. Yes, that violates the copyright. You need legal written permission to use ANY copyrighted material.
