A question about labour?

Hey i'm 35 weeks pregnant and i have been experiencing some pains that i'm not sure if they could mean labor- i'm one of those women that dont want to call the hospital in case i sound like i'm over reacting. I just want too see what some of you think before i call.

Yesterday i was just feeling really 'off', my stomach just felt like it was in cramps and feeling nautious and couldnt eat much. I also felt like i had to go to the toilet (number 2's- tmi) - but nothing would happen.

I had a horrible sleep with back ache and i am so tired but still cant sleep.

Now today, i've been having more back ache and some period like pain. The thing is they dont seem to be getting stronger or longer just the same thing majority of the time. And they aren't going away - even when i change positions or do something different. I still feel like i need to go to the toilet sometimes.

Has anyone experienced this as the beginning of labor? Or is it still a while away?

  1. those could be signs of labor...especially the feeling of having to go #2....i would let your doctor know about these symptoms as you still are 35 wks.....good luck!

  2. i'm 36 weeks and been having the sign exact symptoms since 33 weeks.... still no baby..i thought i was gonna go into labor some days...wouldnt be able to sleep or anything....    just try to relax and keep your mind of it.   next time you go to the doc mention it to them and i'm sure their gonna want to check your cervix just to make sure.

  3. Sounds like early labor. Especially since they are not going away. Go ahead and call your doctor and have him check you and go from there. There is no reason to panic but you should be checked. Good Luck!

  4. It could be the beginning of labor, but you could still be a week or two away, You could also go into active labor tomorrow. I would call your doctor tomorrow and let them know whats going on, just to be on the safe side. That way you can get checked to see if you've dilated any, which is a better indication of how close you are. You can't be too careful when you're pregnant, and no matter how many times you call, there's always someone else who has called twice as much as you have. Congrats and good luck.

  5. I think everyone experiances labor differently. It could be the start of it. It should be noted that babies dont usually "fall" right out. Labor takes time, especially with the first baby. I started going into labor but didnt actually go to the birthcenter until a whole day later. Its not like the movies where women just have their water break in a store and the baby slides out in the taxi. lol

If you are concerned you should contact your OBGYN or midwife, especially if you are high risk.

  6. It could be the start of labour, if you are worried by all means ring the doctors and find out, A day or two before i had my baby i had pains and always going to the toliet.

  7. It sounds like the beginning.  You'll know when it's the real thing.  It gets more urgent!  I had a couple of nights of mild cramping before things kicked into high gear.  Your 'symptoms' might come and go.  Because you're 35w pregnant, I'd definitely call the doctor/hospital.  They might give you a shot of morphine to slow things down and keep the baby in for a few more weeks.  (At least I think it's morphine!)  Call the doc!  Good luck!

  8. The stuff you've been experiencing sounds a lot like what I have been experiencing and i'm 35 weeks 5 days. The only thing is that my back ache and period-like cramps go away if I start moving around or change positions. The other day I started feeling false labor contractions but they weren't consistent and eventually went away all together. I've been having a hard time sleeping lately too as it's just so uncomfortable and I have a difficult time finding a comfortable position to sleep in. I been waking up at around 2:30am every night and can't ever fall back to sleep so it makes me extremely tired during the day.  I don't think you're going into labor anytime soon but I would still let your OB/midwife know about it. I told my midwife and she says it all sounds normal and as long as the pains aren't consistent and stay that I would be fine. Good Luck hun and Congrats on your pregnancy!!

  9. i had the same problem when i was pregnant with my 2 girl so i went to the hospital they put the montor on me that when she told me i was having concation so for me i would get your self in the derlivery room today if you can and get it check as the baby might want to come out so better go to the hospital now ok'

  10. I have been going through the same thing i will be 35 weeks this week i asked my midwife she checked my cervix and it was still closed its to early to have the baby but if you are really worried i would go to labor and delivery thats what she told me to do and ask them to put you on a fetal monitor this will show if you are having contractions or not. I know how you feel I hope this helps

  11. It sounds like you are in early labor! But don't freak out...it could still take some time for your little one to join you. I gave birth on a Thursday, and earlier that week (Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday morning) I had such aches and I had horrible cramps and went to the bathroom all the time (#2 - sorry tmi). It was horrible, but oddly enough, all of the swelling I had in my feet, hands, etc., disappeared afterwards. It's your body's way of preparing you for the stress of labor. My water broke that Wednesday night and my little man was delivered Thursday early afternoon.

It's hard to tell the difference between stomach cramps and contractions when you never had a baby before. If they intestify (and aren't Braxton Hicks), let you ob/gyn know. Don't worry - you'll know when the real thing begins!

Good Luck and You'll do great.

  12. Sounds like your body has started preparing for labor. A few weeks before true labor your body prepares with braxton hicks contractions which your uterus will tighten and loosen causing period like pains. Sometimes you can also experience back labor which is no fun but normal. Making sure you are well hydrated can help sometimes.

No worries you are experiencing all the normal symptoms of pregancy!!
