A question about labour??

My sister is 38 weeks pregnant. On Monday whilst we were out she started spotting. She started to develop pain in her stomach so we rang her midwife, who advised us to go to the hospital.

So when they examined her they said that her cervix was "ripe" and that she was 1cm dialated. They put her on the machine that measures contractions, I don't know much about it but they said that she was contracting regularly & I don't know what the contraction number means but it was up to around 50 on the scale.

They advised her to go home and rest up and told her she may be back that night or Tuesday.

The doctor said that it was definatly too strong to be Braxton Hicks and that it was definatly early labour - so that was Monday........ and there are no further developments.

What's happening!?

  1. that isn't false labor--it's just labor starting slowly.  I know it's hard to wait, but that is actually the best way to do it.  When the contractions are slow and not too painful, you can labor at home and even get some rest and you are not suffering too much!  That way, by the time the labor is really intense, and the pain is getting terrible, she can go to the hospital and will be happy to hear that she has done alot of the work at home already, and will soon deliver.

  2. Well she is just starting labor... it could be any minute to any day now... it is just when the cervix finally opens enough for her baby to pass, then it will be time...

  3. Maybe false labor?  I don't know..nobody here is really qualified to tell you.

  4. i had this they told me that i could go into labour anytime that was on the monday and in the early hours of tuesday i went into real labour they gave me the option to go home but one midwife came to me and said that my cervix had been changing every time she checked me so i should stay in so i did luckily

  5. slow labour - a nightmare!!!! can last ages!!!!! but can also stop and start but on the plus sides means labour is very nealr anyday now and it will come!!!!   50 on the scale is early labour deffinately!!!! when you get over 100 you know your about to drop a baby!!!

  6. I av ad several pregnancies n 1 of mine started like this, my contractions were there but not building up, as soon as contractions can b timed labour is iminent

  7. Braxton Hicks is what she experienced, my sister 38 weeks pregnant too, and she went though something similar in Mid August
