A question about luggage excess weight?

Let's say a family of three adults is traveling from the U.S. to Dubai and they have a total of 20 or 30 extra pounds in their luggage. Approximately how much do they have to pay?

Or, where can I find this info?

(I'm not talking about a specific airline but generally)

  1. Most airlines no longer handle bags that are over 70 lbs. (you pay extra for this size)

Anything over 50 lbs is overweight and charges run from $25 - $100.

Over 70 lbs - the bags are refused.

I would pack the extra things in an additional bag and pay whatever the 2nd bag fee is for that airline.  Usually $25-50.

It's better than having your things left behind.

You really should consult the specific airline for details and pricing.  And keep in mind that if you change carriers... the rules might change also.

  2. I once saw some Japanese that had the biggest bag I have ever seen. It weighed like 100 pounds and they got charged $150 extra. They then tried to get a second bag on that was almost the same size and the airlines did not want to even take it. So anyways, I'd say less then $100 extra.
