Hi im looking for a good mattress that doesnt cost the earth and i like the feel of the memory foam ones as they are very firm and flat... but the sales guy was saying how warm it gets. I find the idea of struggling on muggy nights, rolling around hot off putting. So really my question is to anyone who has gone from a normal sprung one to a memory foam one.. is it that noticeable the difference in heat?

  1. Memory foam is definately hot! Also there is no "bounce", and when my girl and I were looking at mattresses we thought it felt "dead". When making love, the rebound/bounce factor really makes a difference!

  2. I think my memory matress has amnesia, it never goes back to it's original shape anymore.

  3. We had a spring and have moved to memory foam. it is lush and comfortable but we both sweat a lot and spend most nights without a duvet as it gets very toasty!

I personally think you can tell the differnce. They are nice though!

  4. They're definitely warmer. I don't find that the warmth affects sleep at all (in other words, the warmth doesn't really spread to the whole body) but if you happen to wake up in the middle of the night, you'll find that you're noticeably warmer (maybe even sweaty during the summer months), at all places on your body that are in direct contact with the bed.

A possible solution is to buy a mattress cover that is designed to minimize the heat – for example, the bamboo fabric covers by BedinaBox.

All told, I think the extra comfort of a memory foam mattress is totally worth it, even with the extra warmth.

  5. Memory foam matresses do retain a lot of heat, and there are a couple of other disadvantages with them that many people don't realise.

Firstly, there is absolutely no spring to them, so simply turning over on one requires much more effort than on a spring matress. It's like trying to turn on wet sand.

Secondly, the lack of bounce can also be disastrous if you have an active s*x life. The deadening effect of the matress can leave you totally exhausted long before you are satisfied.

My advice is, go for a good sprung matress with a layer of memory foam topping, then you get the best of both worlds.

  6. We bought a memory foam mattress from Ikea, which is slightly different.  Its solid normal foam on side and memory foam the other, its a lot cheaper than most on the market, about £170, so if we didn't like it we would be able to replace it without breaking the bank or just use the foam side.  I haven't noticed it being any hotter than a normal sprung mattress, maybe because its not all memory foam.  Its also lovely and comfortable. The only problem with Ikea mattresses is that they are slightly bigger than British ones, so make sure you buy their fitted sheets as well.

  7. I think the warmness of the memory foam mattress may depends on individual and which type of memory foam mattress that you have.

Simmons memory mattress utilizes the NXG Advanced Memory Foam which will responds quickly to your movements, but also dissipates heat to help keep you at your ideal sleeping temperature.

A memory foam mattress topper is also a good idea as there are different thickness to choose from.

Also check if your mattress store offer any money back guarantee. Some of them have a 30 day money back guarantee. You could return your mattress if you don't like it.
