I am a 17 year old male, that has been fascinated by dance and I want to start modern or contemporary. How exactly do i get started, I have been trying to find lessons around here, etc. But do I need to workout, is there a weight limit (i'm not obese), how flexible do i need to be, or is it even possible to start in your teen years? Just to say a random fact I have been an active clogger for approximately six years.

  1. You can definitely start.  The experience in another dance discipline will help.

Most large cities have several schools that teach modern dance, or you can study another type of dance and transition to Modern next year in college.

  2. just take ballet alond with a modern class and your set. Its usually hard to find a modern or contemporary class if your not apart of a studios "company" or competition/performance group but you can definitly find ballet class which you definitly need to be able to do modern. Or just join a studios dance performance group and you can take all styles and have chances to perform and get better because their always looking for males to join you may even be able to get free tuition. I know around here (Florida) almost all studios offer free male tuition! So look into it! and age means nothing its your drive and passion that counts!

  3. you most definitly can start, and for just regular classes there isnt a weight limit, but it definitly helps to be in shape

  4. i would think that you wouldn't have a problem, i have been dancing for 10yrs and just dancing can be that workout for you. hope you try it but don't do ballet that is just to g*y for guys
