I am just wondering if this is even normal. My green iguana named Pedro of course because he is mexican, actually poops in the litter box and eats cat food. He has been able to walk around our house like the cats and dogs and ferret. He acts just like a cat. He sleeps where the cats sleep. I am just wondering if anybody has one like mine or if they have ever heard of this at all.

  1. It's normal for some, and wonderful but PLEASE stop letting him eat the cat food.  Please.   I worked rescuing iguanas for 8 years and have worked rehabilitating several of them.   Iguanas need to have fresh green leafy greens and really only that.   The shouldn't eat dry food at all.   You can buy collard greens at the grocery store and they love them.   If anything put it next to the cat food or pick up the cat food.

Iguanas are wonderful and amazing animals, they LOVE to 'free roam' when they live in a good house for it and are in a wonderful way just like a pet dog or cat sometimes.

Additionally ... an area that he likes to sit a lot or sleep a lot you need to set up a UVB light.  They're not too expensive, but they need to have the vitamins from this light in order to maintain a healthy life for a long time.

Please take the advice or at least think about it... you're Pedro will be a lot happier and healthier in the long run.

  2. Be careful with letting him eat cat food.  Too much protein is VERY VERY BAD for iguanas.
