  1. If you're very concerned about what medication that you'll be taking, try to invest in a PDR (Physicians Desk Reference). It has color charts of every pill (even vials for injections), plus variations of generics to quickly see what brand matches what pill.

Usually when your pharmacist changes from generic manufacturers the pill size and color will also change (I wish the pharmacists would put a label on the container to warn the patient that it has changed, it'll save having to come back and double check).

If in doubt take the pills to the pharmacist.

Don't double dosage. If you forget, skip the dosage and take it at the normal time later (b.i.d/t.i.d/q.i.d [2/3/4 pills a day] take it at the next scheduled time). Some medications, like neurolyptics (psych meds), have a high serum life (stays in the blood stream for a long time - 24+hrs) and you don't want to increase the side affects, some can even be fatal.

  2. Citalopram is a generic so it's very possible that you just received a different manufacturer's product ----

BUT, you should definitely call the pharmacy to verify this before taking any out of your new bottle.

  3. Go take it back to the pharmacist and sk them y its different they might have accidently switched  meds with some one. That could be VERY dangerous.

  4. I know that feeling, and it's always been when the pharmacy has switched generic brands.  Just double-check with the pharmacist to be sure; they can make mistakes.  If you have the old bottle, you should be able to compare the manufacturer of the old and new bottle - they ought to be printed on the label.

  5. Don't be scared to take it. It may just be a different brand or strength. If you're really feeling cautious, go to a pharmacy and ask them if it's the same thing.

And no, taking 20mg probably would not cause major harm, but people extremely rarely "accidentily" take more pills than they want to. Just don't take 20mg. IF... now that is an extreme IF, you happen to "accidentily" (which would never happen) take 20mg, maybe call your doctor or go to the local emergency room if you feel odd.
