Is it possible - after already going through the entire process, including MEPS - to push the deployment date (to go to BT) on my contract back to a later date? I am going into my senior year of high school and I am in the DEP, my current deployment date is in JUN09

  1. Don't think so, you can only push your Ship date back a year. And if you ship June '09, thats little less than a year away.

  2. Come June 09, you'll have completed high shcool so no problems!

  3. depends.   normally you can only be in DEP 12 months.  exceptions are made for graduating seniors, but you can't expect to push it back another six months.  also, by changing your ship date you could lose your slot in school, thus any bonuses associated with that job. as well as the job itself.

if the next slot for that school isn't for a while, then you either lose that job, or ship on time.

  4. Yes - You can only  be in the DEP for 12 months, so it sounds like when next June comes, you might fall out of the DEP.

When did you take your ASVAB?

It is quite a long ways down the road so they should be able to work with you and give you a later date.

The Recruiters and the people at the MEPS might give you a hard time about it however, tell them that either they modify your date or your not going,

A lot of it deals with the Job that you have already been slated for because that goes on school availability dates.  You might need to open yourself up to another job.

Check with your recruiter and see.

My suggestion is to go when you are scheduled.  Any time that you have during the summer can give you extra time to get into trouble that could disqualify you.  Lets face it, once you finish your Senior year, that is about it.  Everyone moves on and that summer is just not the same as the ones previous.

Please let me know when you took the ASVAB -  when I was a recruiter, I had an instance when the kid was in the DEP for a year and then it expired.  Because his ASVAB, at that point was over 2 years old, he had to Re-Take the ASVAB.

ADDITIONAL INFO:    Good news on the ASVAB - All you have to do then is to get your job reassigned for a different date.  You do not have to drop out of the DEP until your 1 year is up.  The Delayed Entry program time will count towards your Inactive Reserve Commitment (the 4 yrs Active, 4 yrs Inactive Res = 8 years total).

Again, don't let them push you around.  They will do anything to keep you as long as you go Active Duty.

  5. Yes it is possible but it will be a whole new contract depend on the current needs.  The job you have contracted for now may or may not be open at a latter date.  If you got a bonus that could change, it could be more or less.  This info would apply to the Army, not sure about other branches.

  6. yeah you can push the date back a little (assuming you dont break the 12 months) just talk to your recruiter. It really depends on what rate, mos, or whatever you chose, some jobs they can afford to let you wait and others you may have been lucky to get into it then. All you can do is talk to your recruiter and have him talk to MEPS
