So I breast feed, but she seems to be going through a never ending growth spurt and I can't keep up with the feedings, my milk takes almost four hours to come back in. So we have switched her to formula and breast milk...we don't mix them together..... but she seems to have trouble pooping when she is on the formula.... is that because she hasn't gotten used to it yet or is there another reason... we give her similac because it is the formula most similar to actual breast milk. please only people who actually know about a situation like this and have a correct or actual helpful answer to give please, thanks so much.

  1. Some formula has a lot of iron, which will cause her to have trouble going to the bathroom.  Also formula fed babies, dont go all the time like babies who are fed breast milk.  Once a day, or once every two days is normal for a baby on formula.

  2. try giving her half breast milk half formula until she is use to it. If you have stopped pumping then give her a little karo syrup in each bottle of 4 oz formula. 1 tsp to 4 oz bottle twice aday for a week or so. that should help her be more regular and the karo wont hurt her in any way. I had to do it for my baby at 3 wks also due to constipation. Hope I helped. if you want ask your dr. what he or she thinks about the karo.

Good Luck and Congrats on your new Baby girl!!!

  3. We had the same issue.  We switched from similac to Enfamil Gentlease.  It is milk based but has partially broken down proteins to help aid in digestion.  It worked great and now that she is totally on formula she poops daily...  I have been told that other similar formulas are the Nestle goodstart.  Talk to your pediatrician about switching.  Congratulations

  4. The iron in formula can cause constipation that is a common problem.  Usually it takes about 2 wks for a baby to adjust to a new formula and if after that there is still a constipation problem it is best to talk to the pediatrician about other formulas.

  5. souds like my son, I just kept feeding him and my milk regenerated at 8 weeks he calmed down

  6. i breastfed until my son was 3 months i would store my milk in the freezer and when i wanted to start switching i did it slowly. for example if your baby eats 4 ounces a feeding mix 3 oz bm with 1 oz formula. do this for a day or 2 until u see she can handle it then mix 2oz bm and 2oz formula. and so on until she is weaned. but keep pumping milk until she is fully weaned. pump just as much as if she was still breastfeeding. If this does not work ask her doctor what to do maybe she has allergies to that formula. good luck

  7. My baby had the same problem so we just switched to Similac Sensitive and once she got use to it we haven't had the problem since. She is still breastfed and takes formula and it has worked out fine.
