About an hour ago, I was overcome with intense pain in my abdomen, similar to that of a menstrual cramp, but way stronger than any cramp I've ever had before. About 50 minutes ago, I took 2 Extra Strength Tylenol, and the pain has barely diminished at all. Now, I don't have any more Tylenol, but I do have 200mg pills of Excedrin brand ibuprofen. Is it okay if I take the ibuprofen now?

  1. not sure, but i've done it many times and I'm still alive and kicking :)

  2. No... you need to go to the Dr.  You might be having appendicitis.  Plus even if it were only gas.. pain killers aren't going to help with that.  They don't work much on that kind of pain.  See the Dr.

  3. sure why not...you cant overdose on tylenola nd ibuprofen. just kill your liver!

  4. I'd give the Tylenol some more time to work. 50 mins. isn't very long.  I'd also stick with the Tylenol instead of mixing up another drug; although it may be ok to take an NSAID and Tylenol, it may not be a good thing for the long term.  As an example, I took an NSAID (Aleve) daily for arthritis and when it stopped working very well, I added tylenol on some days.  I didn't do this very often or for very long and I looked it up on a drug interaction database before I tried it.

  5. Just 50 minutes of waiting for the other medicine to work isn't very long. I suggest you wait at least 2 hours from when you took the Tylenol so that way you know you gave it all the time it would need to give relief. I know that's not what you want to hear now but you should give it a chance since you already took it.

However if you must you could take the ibuprofen now b/c they are 2 different medications and they normal don't interact with each other unless your allergic to them.

From my experience ibuprofen works great for anything i ever took it for. Headaches, cramps, body aches, fever... all worked wonders. I rarely take Tylenol anymore unless that's all i have.

  6. There is a 4-6 hour wait between taking pills. At least wait 4 hours before trying something else.

  7. I'd say no. 2 extra strength Tylenol is about 1300mg of pain medicine. It would be too soon to take more safely. Try applying heat to the area to see if that helps, if it gets worse you should see a doctor.

  8. Hmmm, not sure about taking it with Tylenol.  However, if ever I have any type of pain my doctor usually tells me to take some form of ibuprofen Tylenol is suppose to wear off after about 4 hours, so maybe you should wait the four hours.  If it were me, I would go ahead and take the ibuprofen if the pain is unbearable.  However, you should do what you think would be best for you, so use my advice at your own risk.  Hope you get to feeling better.

  9. No, you need to wait about 2-3 hours between dosing. But you can call your local pharmacisist and make sure.
