How long after ovulation does the egg "live" in the woman's body? Im curious because I'm like on the 23-24 day of my cycle and Im wondering because I know ovulation is around day 14 so does this mean my egg has died? I heard that they live 24-72 hours after ovulation. Could I get pregnant if I tried? Wouldn't there be less cases of unwanted pregnancy since the eggs die so soon after ovulation?

  1. I know the egg travels downward starting at ovulation and if it is not fertilized during that travel time it travels it's way on out via menstruation. As for how long it "lives",I'm not sure but it must be "alive" until you get your period, unless part of the travel time is after it has died.I know optimum time for pregnancy is(intercourse) right before ovulation. If you're like me you can actually feel when you ovulate, you sort of have cramps and mucus. It is usually 14 days after the first day of your period, but if you are irregular like me(not so uncommon as people who are regular think)you have to track it month to month and you take the length of you cycle and divide it by 2 and that's the day you ovulate. My cycle is usually 30 to 34 days,so if I get my period on the 1st,then I probably ovulate on around the 15th to the 18th.The every-other-day of intercourse schedule during that time should make it happen, and it's easier than putting pressure on your man to "have to" at a certain time, unless of course it's possible.Trust me I have endometriosis and didn't think I would get pregnant but I conceived my daughter seven years ago at 29 (she just turned 6)using this method(as well as mucus checks). Hope this helps!!!

  2. Not every woman ovulates on day 14. As a matter of fact in 2008 most women don't. Our bodies are so tainted by all the harsh chemicals and foods that we put into it that most womens cycles aren't even regular. I believe[but am not sure] that the egg passes through after 72 hours and it's like a jelly discharge. Or it just decinigrates. The egg was never alive. It has to be fetilized to be living. 24-72 is the right amount of time. But when trying to get pregnant you should have s*x 3 days leading up to ovulation as well as the day of. That's the best way to get pregnant!

  3. I had no clue my eggs were alive like sperm. I think that your egg is either fertilized or prepares for menstration. It can be fertilized up to 48 hours after ovulation. So, yes it has already been decided if you are pregnant or not and your egg will either be a zygote or be preparing to be flushed out by menstration
