  1. It's custom that shows family continuity, and is a way of honoring ancestors.

  2. they do that because the want to keep it in the family like your last name sometimes pass on and on theywant people to know where the family form. but the fergie think is probably a lie because just because your are royalty does not mean you can the rights to a certain name

  3. that might be true. their first names are selected with care especially if they are in direct line to any throne. couldn't have too many marys or elizabeths in the current royal family, right? too confusing.  these people also have several middle names in honor of past relatives, too.  prince charles has five or six middle names  each signifying dead relatives linked to the throne. his boys are also straddled with more than first , middle and last.  this is the 21st century and royalty are now more known by their first name or a nickname. makes them more 'homey', but go back less than 75 years ago and royalty and those associated with were addressed with their full title along with HRH .  i guess this was so otherwise they might forget who and what they were. not so today. they know their place but like all gilded cages, it's still a cage. royalty has become more and more symbolic and less and less with power. today's' govt bankrolls royalty and you know what the saying is, right? the govt giveth and the govt taketh away!

  4. It has always been a tradition to name your offspring after some one important in the family, to keep their "legacy" alive and remembered throughout the generations.

Apparently all of Queen Elizabeth II’s children and grandchildren were named after one of their important ancestors, except Princess Anne’s daughter, Zara Philips. She was named by her uncle, Prince Charles, who summed up the sudden arrival by blessing her with the Greek biblical name that means "bright as the dawn."

  5. they want to keep the tradition.

like james 1to james2 to james 3 ,etc......
