I am trying to sell a laptop on craigslist. First of all, when people want to pay through paypal and ask for your paypal information, is this indicative of fraud? Also, when a person offers to pay more than you are asking, is this also indicative of fraud?

  1. Definitely, if someone offers you more than your asking price, it's a red flag for fraud!  These people will send you a phony check and then ask you to wire money back to make up the difference- by the time you've done that, the original check gets returned and you're out all that money, plus the money you sent to them.

Offering to pay through PayPal is not necessarily fraud.  Some people feel that they're protected a bit more as a buyer if they pay through PayPal.  If it makes you nervous though, you can always ask for cash only.

  2. I think paypal is actually preventive of fraud.  They might want to pay more if they want to make sure they'll get the laptop and no one else because they think it is a good deal.

  3. It sounds to me like yes. I will accept cash only.
