Hi guys,

first of all hello, i'm new to yahoo answers.

My question is sprinting,

when I did 100m ages ago when I was in primary school I remember getting 14 seconds in 100m (terrible I know) my question is, is it possible to imrove dramaticly in 100m because when i'm playing football a lot of people say to me 'you're quick" or 'watch him he's fast' and i no longer have the capability of being timed correctly over 100m anymore.

also my second question is my friend is a member of a athletics club and he runs 100m in the 11's like 11.03 he said the best he's ever run is a 10.5 wind assisted anyway he gave me tips about plyometric exercised i think there called .. and eating correctly and building up upper body as the arms are important in sprinting. my question is tho he told me he uses the technique of running literaly as if on his tip toes, my question is! is this how all sprinters run? i seem to run more flatfooted and lift my heels! sorry for the terrible grammar.

  1. i reckon if u think u fast u go to a club there is plenty out there i go to one an i do the 100m if u want to be timed get a trainer to do it at the end of the track so he can see when u start an wen u finish !

well cos im a sprinter an i go to a club an i dont run on my toes i run flat footed - i think lol - use your arms a lot so i agree about the building up muscles in ur arms but not to much cos ther not to important !

i hope my advice has helped xx

  2. definitely run on your toes, arms should be moving up and down (practice by over emphasizing so you can see your elbows as you run), take your friend's advice about building your upper body, and watch tyson g*y run...he has perfect form...it is ALL about form and muscle. good luck at football this year!

  3. u should be running directly on the balls of ur feet, not toes, the balls of ur feet. basically exactly where the spikes are located.

    heavy squats

10-60m sprints with full rest inbetween

those two will do the most for ur speed.

    upper body strength/plyometrics are secondary.

  4. sorry  but this has confused me, i do a lot of running but more like long distance.

it is important to build up you're legs for running, if you over balance your top half, you won't be able carry your own weight effectively.

why are you worried about your time for 100m when you play footbal? surely that's more about stamina?

btw, your mate is fast bcozhe attends the club and concentrates on one area, unlike yourself!

last thing, don't compare yourself to anyone else bcoz everyone is very different!

  5. Firstly, when you say primary school, do you mean up to the age of 11? Because if you do then 14 seconds for an 11 year old is pretty quick to say the least!

The best way to improve your sprinting is to sprint. Then do other training like Fartlek and playometric training aswel as abreak up for your ruetine (spelling) Also a great training 'tool' is hill training, it will build your muscular endurance so you can stay at your top speed for longer!

    Hope this helps

  6. 1.14 seconds is not a bad time

    2.do plyometrics they work wonders

3.develop your arms and not just them but also your core

4.ive seen fast people who run both ways tho like 2/3 ran on their toes whereas the others ran flatfooted but all of them are really fast find what works for you
